Mission Team #5 – May 2009

May 1-10, 2009

Victory Highway Wesleyan Church

1Peter 1:13 “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

Part 1

This scripture truly depicts the attitude of team #5. They were prepared to work and displayed self-control in wanting to learn more about Honduras, the culture, and more about Border Buddies Ministries Inc. This team accomplished much and this report is one of four that will be sent out. This team experienced many things and witnessed salvation in one of our youth. This salvation happened when I left the team for my Thursday boys youth group meeting. At 7:30pm the team started to pray at the house with out me knowing. At 7:35pm 5 minutes after I had dismissed my group Jose Luis Canales came back in tears and asked if he could come to the Lord and receive his forgiveness and his salvation. I led him through the salvation prayer and through many scriptures in explaining what had happened to him and also to reaffirm him that his name is written in the Book of Life. The team normally knew they needed to pray and obviously there was a reason. God works in many ways and through many circumstances.

The second project was to install the rough wiring for both floors. Dale Cleveland our expert on team with the help of every one was able to install of the lights, outlets, panel box, and main line with meter to the street pole. This team was preparing for the next team to come. Many Blessings to all of you for being apart of this project with your prayers and donations! Mike and Glenda.

The team primed the entire outside of the building except the back wall because it is very high and hard to reach. They also primed the interior block walls on the second floor and also inside walls on the first floor. Many youth from the community of Rincon helped out with the painting. We love to watch the community to get involved because it builds relationships.

Building relationships is something God wants with us and also he wants with in the body of Christ. Short term mission trips offer an opportunity to experience relationship building and a deeper understanding of how the Honduran people live. Every team heads back home changed.

One blessing that the community receives through Cheryl Cleveland is the opportunity to learn new things from her and her sewing classes. This is the 2nd time Cheryl has been to Honduras and her second time she has offered a week worth of sewing classes. Cheryl taught two very practical projects that the women of Rincon appreciated deeply. The first was how to make pillow cases and the second was thread catcher bags.

The women were not only taught in how to make these projects but also how to use a walking foot. Cheryl brought down 3 electric sewing machines so the women can use and learn how to sew by electric. I remember when we started our sewing classes back in 2005 with one foot peddled machine and it has grown to 5 foot peddle machine and 4 electric machines. These classes are to inspire the women to sew for there families and to also sew for others as well. We thank God for what Cheryl teaches and for these classes.

1Peter 1:15-16 “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Part 2

Being holy is setting an example for others. It is showing Jesus Christ and his love to others. It is making and building a relationship(s). Team #5 did this in their actions and how they worked together. One thing the people from the community of Rincon admire from our teams is how we work together, how our women were not afraid to try things and to do work that most Honduran men would say is strictly for men. It is interesting to see change and a new way of thinking. It is inspiring and thought provoking. Jesus Christ is Holy and he moves us to strive to become holy. We should be examples as well for others in our pursuit to be holy even when having fun.

Again we want to say thank you to all of you for your prayers and for your support. We also want to invite anyone who may be interested in serving on a team that comes down.
