Our first trip with our youth group for 2014 was a trip to a town called Cedeno. It is south from the Capital of Honduras (Tegucigalpa) and it takes about 3 hours to get there. This is a very inexpensive trip for the boys. But it is a time to swim, blow off steam, catch some rays for us “Gringos”, and to just have fun. One of things that Ben and Justin were telling us is that in the states you would never be allowed to have sand fights like we do. In the 2nd photo is a shot of one of our sand fights. We usually pick a person and hit him with a ton of sand until he is a sand monster. Then we all run into the ocean and float for a while and then start all over again. One thing I noticed in our youth group is the fear of the water. I wondered is it because they can’t swim? Or is it because they are afraid of what is in the water? So I asked and they said they are afraid they would be caught up in the waves and taken out to sea. I laughed and said this is why you stay close to the shore. It reminded me of Jesus walking on the water and asking Peter to come out of the boat and walk to him. It took faith to step out of the boat and walk. But fear also came into play for Peter. This is one of the hurdles we are working through with our youth in overcoming the fear to pray to God and believe He is going to be faithful to answer their prayers. Change is another fear they are overcoming. It is not the change they need to make, but it is the change the Jesus is offering to their families and friends. The fear is to take that Gospel to those who are close to them and offer that same change they are making to them. This is walking on water without sinking. This is trusting that they will not be pulled out to sea. It takes Faith. Is there someone you need to witness to and you haven’t because of fear?
