Boys Youth Group Tithe at Work

BOYS YOUTH GROUP TITHE AT WORK

by Michael J. Miller, Jr.

In June when we hosted our first Victory team for the 2016 year. We went to Comayagua to start handing out water filters to the community. We have broken up the community of 500 families into 6 different groups and have been working for over a year with our discipleship home groups being led by our older youth. In my section we have the “frontier” where we have two discipleship home groups. One we have been working with for two years. The other was a new section for us. This is where we took a few members of the June team. Pastor Vaughn and Brad Hinman were with us when we met a young lady named Isis.

Isis is 15 years old and is seen in all the photos. She came to us and said, “Pastor Mike would you like help in finding homes with the most need to distribute your filters.” Of course I said yes and she guided us to many homes that day. What we noticed in her was that she loved God and the people loved her. She helped us not just with this team but with the teams that came after. I talked to her about her education.

She told me it was difficult to study because she has to walk 30 minutes to school and back every day, plus she had to walk further to use the internet to copy notes that she wrote by hand into her one notebook because she couldn’t afford copies. I talked to the boys and they went to work with their tithes from their sales and also what they have been putting in from working. They are sponsoring Isis in her 6th grade year and they have made a commitment to sponsor her until she finishes 12th grade. They also knew how difficult it was to study and copy notes from the internet so they fund raised $300 to purchase Isis a complete encyclopedia set including maps and dictionary for her to use and share with her 2 brothers.

She received a new uniform because she didn’t have one. She also received new shoes and sneakers and all that she needed to study with. Our boys truly know what it means to help, give, and encourage other youth. They are sacrificing so another can be blessed. Another example, of our youth making a difference in their own country.
