When Robin Fitzmartin arrived at the airport in Honduras she came out of customs with not luggage but plastic bins full of craft supplies. Smiled and laughed and said, “I called the airport ahead of time and they approved the bins and it gave me an opportunity to bring material to make wreathes, yarn that was donated by a local shop back home, and much more crafting materials.” As you can see in the photos on the right the ladies loved this project. It was a first for them and it was colorful, fun, and a new way to earn money for their families let alone decorate their homes. We have a wreath on our door as well. Not only did the ladies learn how to make wreaths but they embarked on a new crochet project as seen in the bottom photo. Also the women worked on jewelry as seen on the 2nd page bottom photo. One thing Robin did was start a conversation about her and asked the ladies questions to participate. Some women opened up about their personal lives. Others commented that this was the first time they ever heard testimonies from others. With Robin’s willingness to be vulnerable in front of the ladies it opened up doors for the group to be vulnerable as well. I think it was a time of bonding, learning, and relaxing. This was all part of a healing process for them.

Another idea that Robin and her girls had was to offer a time of fun. They gave manicures to the women who came for the projects. Not only did they serve them but the ladies gave manicures back to the team. All the women walked away with bottles of nail polish. You are probably asking yourself when these projects happen. At lunch time when the team comes back to our home for lunch the team splits into two groups. One group goes back to the work site and the other group leaves at 1:15pm to the Barrio Rincon for the Venezuela School to work on these projects until 4:30pm. So our teams have jammed back week. Thank you to Robin and the entire team for a blessed week for the women in the Barrio Rincon.
